UFC fighter and champian Conor McGregor announced on Twitter that he has made the decision to retire from UFC.

Conor tweeted, “Hey guys, quick announcement.  I’ve decided to retire from the sport formally known as ‘Mixed Martial Art’ today.  I wish all my old colleagues well going forward in competition.  I now join on my former partners on this venture, already in retirement.  Proper Pina Coladas on my fellas!”

Conor’s last fight took place in October of 2018. He fought against Khabib Nurmagomedov and lost.  According to Entertainment Tonight, “The Russian won the lightweight bout by a fourth-round submission. However, a fight broke out afterward, resulting in fines and suspensions for both players.”

And this isn’t Conor’s first time announcing retirement.  Back in April of 2016 Conor tweeted, “I have decided to retire young. Thanks for the cheese.”

Following Conor’s announcement, he took to Facebook to explain his reason(s) that lead to his decision to retire.  His main reason, promotional work.  Conor explains, “I’m doing what I need for me now. It is time to be selfish with my training again. It is the only way.  I am paid to fight. I am not yet paid to promote. I have become lost in the game of promotion and forgot about the art of fighting.”

There’s no doubt about it – Conor can most definitely be a hot-head.  Over the last year, Conor was arrested in Miami for ‘strong-arm robbery and criminal mischief’ and can we forget the time when Conor smashed a bus window.

On the flip side, Conor launched a brand new Irish whiskey called ‘Proper Twelve Irish Whiskey’ and first introduced the new drink on Jimmy Fallon.  Conor explained, “I’ve gone through some crazy injuries, some crazy external situations that many a man would sprint for the hills if it happened to them.  But I stood firm, done my piece for the company. Like I said, this whiskey is my baby. I have a lot of great entities. I don’t necessarily need to fight. I am set for life, my family is set for life. We are good. But I am eager to fight. So, we will see what happens. I’m just staying ready, as I like to say.”

At least we know at 30-years old, Conor has a backup plan!
