Looking back at my childhood, I remember the days my mom used to sit me in front of the television, and I would so happily enjoy watching Mr. Rogers.  My favourite part of the show – when Mr. Rogers would walk into his home at the beginning of every episode, hang his coat in the closet and change into one of his legendary sweaters.

Now, in 2019, as I look at Tom Hanks in character as Mr. Rogers, the resemblance just blows my mind!  Sony Pictures officially released the very first photo of Tom Hanks, in character and on set of the upcoming moving ‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.’  Wearing a red sweater, a tie, khaki pants and a buttoned-up, white-collared shit, this photo (below) has Fred Rogers written all over it.

According to PEOPLE, “The film will focus on Rogers’ unlikely friendship with award-winning journalist Tom Junod, who got to know the television personality while writing a 1998 profile on the star for Esquire magazine.  Rogers, the star of the beloved, long-running children’s series Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, was the subject of the doc Won’t You Be My Neighbor? that premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. He died in 2003 at the age of 74.”

The film will be directed by Marielle Heller and during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she explained, “[This] movie is…. not a biopic.  I disliked that when it got announced it was characterized as such. It’s really not. It’s a movie that’s largely focused on a reporter and [Mr. Rogers’] relationship to his life, and how [the reporter’s] whole world changes when coming in contact with Fred Rogers.”

‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood’ will hit theatres in November!

“There are three ways to ultimate success: The first way is to be kind. The second way is to be kind. The third way is to be kind.” – Mr. Rogers
