If you share your Netflix password with family and friends, it might be time for everyone to get their own account.

New artificial intelligence introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas this week shows they soon be able to track down login sharers.

So here’s how it could go down. Netflix is trying to prevent those with a basic membership from sharing their passwords with friends / family who don’t live in the same household. If you have a premium account, where you can stream at the same time as another user on your account, they likely won’t care. So why the sudden interest? Netflix reported that by 2021 they will have lost an estimated $9.9 billion because of password sharing. Now that it’s hurting their profits, it looks like change could be coming very soon.

 

The technology comes from a software provider called Synamedia.

Recent research says 26% of millennials admit to sharing their Netflix credentials.
