It’s been 5 years since the series finale, but Variety has confirmed that a “Breaking Bad” movie is in the works by the show’s creator, Vince Gilligan. With production starting in the next couple weeks (!), it’s unclear if the movie will air on TV like the original series or make it to the theatres.

Details are sparse, with no information on what shape the movie would take — a prequel like “Better Call Saul” or something else — or whether any of “Breaking Bad’s” stars will return. The Albuquerque Journal includes a logline stating the film “tracks the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom.”

Reportedly the code name for this project is “Greenbriar” and while this may seem like a too-good-to-be-true rumour, it was actually confirmed by Walter White himself:

Bryan Cranston on Wednesday called into the sports talk radio show “The Dan Patrick Show” and confirmed the project is indeed in the works.

Cranston said he hasn’t yet read the script and that his character, Walter White, may not even be in it. Cranston said he would “absolutely” return to the character if he was in it.

Theories have already started the swirl about what this movie could be about:

While many fans are thrilled at the prospect of a new movie, some say it’s unnecessary:
