Ever put off replying to a DM? Now, your friends will know how long you’ve been online but ignoring them.

It’s a feature you may be familiar with on WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and other platforms, and now it’s arrived on Instagram. With its latest update, the app now tells all your friends when you’re “active” on direct messages, under the usernames of people you chatted with or tagged in Stories. It’ll also show when messages have been “seen” and when someone is “typing…”.

Only visible to people you direct message *and* follow, the latest addition to Instagram isn’t sitting well with some people:

Luckily, you can turn the new feature off and here’s how:
Go Instagram’s app settings (the gear icon) inside your profile, and then toggle off the “Show Activity Status.”
