This may make you love Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson even more…did you know HE’S ONE OF US?! Yes, he’s Canadian!!

You may know that he played in the CFL before getting into the WWE and becoming The People’s Champ….

But turns out…he more than just PLAYED here in Canada. We. Repeat. THE. ROCK. IS. CANADIAN! (Ok, part-Canadian, but we’ll get to that in a second)

This might explain some things. Like how he’s often seen speaking more highly of Vancouver (where he’s currently filming his latest movie, Skyscraper) than some Vancouverites. Check out his video where he calls Vancouver one of his “favourite cities in the world”:

He also shared similar love about Surrey and its mayor to his 97.4 million followers on Instagram:

THANK YOU, Mayor Linda Hepner and her entire staff for the warm “We ?? DJ” welcome to your city. And thank you, British Columbia/Canada for welcoming me like a son. On a personal growth note, years ago this province served as catalyst for a defining time in my life when I was cut from the CFL and my dreams of eventually making it to the NFL were over. I didn’t understand the value of it then, but I certainly do today – making the CFL/NFL was the best thing that never happened. Remember that when life kicks our asses and crushes our plans. Have faith because sometimes that goal might be the best thing that never happened. Now where the hell is my tough guy macchiato pumpkin spice latte? #SkyscraperMovie #Surrey #Vancouver ????????

The love is reciprocal too, as the City of Vancouver just proclaimed an official “Dwayne The Rock Johnson Day” here in our city:

It’s official: The Rock Day. Such a cool (and bad ass) honor to have the Mayor of Vancouver, Gregor Robertson, present this proclamation to me last night on set. I’m a grateful man to be in the business of making big movies and entertainment that serve multiple purposes around the world. One of those critical purposes is providing jobs for thousands of hard working people, local businesses and economies every time we bring a production to town. Jobs and opportunities for people. And free waffles for me. Thank you Mayor and your staff for being so gracious and welcoming to myself and our entire production crew to your city. And thank you for this honor and thanks for being such a cool guy. Vancouver will always hold a special place in my DNA. Next time drinks on me.. #ItsOfficial #TheRockProc #October19th #Vancouver #TheRockDay ?????

Well…get ready to have your mind blown by this little-known fact:

Despite not having been born in Canada himself, Johnson’s father (Rocky Johnson) was born in Nova Scotia and moved to Toronto as a teen to train as a wrestler. Due to changes in Canadian nationality law, The Rock became a Canadian citizen in 2009…so YES, he holds dual-citizenship with the US.
Together now…

BTW The Rock was filming yesterday at Rogers Arena:

(BTW Dwayne if you somehow stumbled across this blog about you…we’d love to have you on our show while you’re filming here in Vancouver. We know you’re busy, but you know…gotta spread the love to fellow Canadians 😉 )
