Sure, it’s a first world problem but sometimes you want avocado and you want it NOW!!!

But then you head to the grocery store only to find that the every single one is hard and needs at least a couple days to be ready to eat. Ugh!!!

Well here’s a little life hack to get your avocado ripe in the event of an avocado emergency. To ripen an avocado as quickly as possible without sacrificing taste, put your avocado in a paper bag with a ripe banana, apple or kiwi then roll it shut. Put the bag somewhere warm, which right now in Vancouver is pretty much everywhere with the heat wave we’ve had over summer. Then just wait it out overnight. The ripe fruit releases ethylene gas, which will speed up the ripening process for the avocado and VOILA…you have a ripe avocado ready to go for your avocado toast.

Now…if the avocado is ready before you need it, put the avocado in your fridge’s crisper and it will help slow the process. Amazing, right?

Holy guacamole!

And there you have it folks, the answer to all your avocado problems.

Oh and you might see in some places that you can put your avocado in the oven for 10mins to make it soft. Sure, it will make it soft but doesn’t actually make it ripe so you’ll be stuck with that woody unripe taste. Hard pass on that one!
You’re welcome. 🙂
