Here is the story of how twitter got scammed out of a bunch of money. It starts with this now deleted tweet.

When people saw that, some users asked for the gift list, and started buying things. Over 350 gifts were purchased for Chelsie Collins, the 19 year old mother to be from Ohio. People also donated to her through paypal. Which is a wonderful heartwarming thing to do. It would make any saddened person overjoyed.

But then some people did some research. One reporter even called the restaurant

The restaurant said that approximately 15 people showed up to the baby shower. So I guess people did show up? That’s not what the tweet said. Could this have been a stunt to try and get donations? One user went the more direct route to try and figure it out.

Yep. So its a scam.

I’m not really sure what the rules are here. By definition, this stunt is a scam. But I’m not sure what laws it breaks. I don’t know enough about Ohio laws. Where does it go from here. Does she have to return the gifts and donations? Donate them somewhere else? Are there fines? Jail time?

All I know is that what Chelsea pulled is a jerk move overall.
