High school grad. Either the best or worst day of high school depending on what happened. My ceremony was awkward, that story will be a footnote in this blog. I’m going to talk about Chelsea Kennedy and her grad now.

See, Chelsea was the only one to graduate from her high school this year. She lives on a farm near Hodgeville, Saskatchewan. There’s not much around Hodgeville. It has 150 people. The town’s claim to fame was that the Flag of Saskachewan was created there.

Becuse she was the only grad, she was defacto everything. She was her valedictorian. She won all the scholarships. She got all the awards. Chelsea was the head of the grad committee, and got to design how her private grad was going to go.

Chelsea made her grad decorations match her dress. They put up pictures of her all around the venue. She gave her valedictorian speech in front of 70 people, all of Chelsea’s friends and family. She basically had a grad party to herself. That’s the dream!

P.S. My awkward grad

I graduated when flash mobs were all the rage. So a few eager students decided to try and organize one, and create a dance for us all to learn. We had 200ish students. Getting the coordination for this dance was hard, but it was happening. We got most of the students on board with it, but the day before the grad, we all got cold feet and bailed on the flash mob.

Convocation comes around, and the principal is making his farewell speech when he says “Before you go, the students have one final surprise for you,” fully expecting the flash mob. A handful of students started dancing, but quickly stopped. Cue 30 seconds of silence, before one student ran up to the stage, and told the principal that the flash mob was off. Convocation was over. And that was my awkward grad.
