There really is an app for everyone. Forgotify is all about the obscure songs. Forget artists like Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran that are breaking records for the millions of plays their getting on the platform. What about the little guy that doesn’t even have a single play?

Meet Forgotify! Forgotify tears through Spotify in search of songs with zero plays, playing only the songs that no one else has ever listened to.

Is there really enough songs like that on Spotify to do that though?

According to data that Spotify released in October of last year, 80% of the 20-million-or-so songs on Spotify have been listened to at least once. That means 20% of the songs have not. That’s 4 million songs with zero plays.

Wow. That’s a lot of music.

Obviously though, that means a lot of them are probably not going to be the GREATEST songs in the world. But think of how fun your next party could be if you play nothing but weird stuff no one has ever heard? Seems like it would be instantly entertaining to have some amateur cover of a KidzBop song come or some niche German techno mixed with smooth jazz pop up on your playlist.

C’mon, why not live a little with your music choices?!

The only problem seems to be that once you’ve played a song, it’s no longer at ‘zero plays’ to count as a Forgotify song, right? Does that mean that it instantly disappears? Meaning that, if this thing is working correctly, no one will ever hear it again.

Mind = slightly blown right now and this probably too deep of a thought for a Thursday.

Anyways, you can find Forgotify here. If you actually want to listen to a track, you’ll have to be signed in to Spotify.
