Netflix also confirmed the news via the official Twitter page for 13 Reasons Why.

13 Reasons Why tells the story of high school teenager Hannah Baker who commits suicide and leaves a series of cassette tapes for her classmates to listen to so they can understand the reasons why she killed herself.

The show has recently come under fire with critics saying the show glamorizes suicide.

Selena spoke to the Associated Press a few weeks ago and addressed criticism of the show saying, “We stayed very true to the book and initially what Jay Asher created, [which] was a beautifully tragic, complicated yet suspenseful story, and I think that’s what we wanted to do.”

She added, “We wanted to do it justice and, yeah, [the backlash is] going to come no matter what,” the actress added. “It’s not an easy subject to talk about, but I’m very fortunate with how it’s doing and I’m overwhelmed, very proud of it.”

When Selena spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about ’13 Reasons Why’, she revealed that she won’t ‘rule out a second season’.

“We don’t know what is going to go beyond it, but we know there are so many stories that lie beneath each character.  That’s why it became a series in the first place. So we’ll see.”

The first season ended with many of the show’s characters at a crossroads in their lives so it should be interesting to see where the show takes the story in the second season and if Hannah Baker will even be apart of the second show.
