Miley Cyrus is set to release a new single next week Thursday (May 11); the brand new single will be called ‘Malibu’!

‘Malibu’ is described as a love ballad for Miley’s fiance Liam Hemsworth. Miley became inspired to write the record in part because she wanted to control the media narrative surrounding her relationship.

She told Billboard,  “They’re going to talk about me if I come out of a restaurant with Liam…So why not put the power back in my relationship and say, ‘This is how I feel’?”

Last time we heard from Miley, musically speaking that is, was in 2015 when she released the album, Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz.

Miley’s new music will also represent a more clear-minded Cyrus as she revealed to Billboard, she stopped smoking weed while recording, “I like to surround myself with people that make me want to get better, more evolved, open. And I was noticing, it’s not the people that are stoned. I want to be super clear and sharp, because I know exactly where I want to be.”

After leaning more Hip-Hop on her 2013 Bangerz album (it featured tracks with Big Sean, Future and French Montana along with smash hits like ‘Wrecking Ball’ and ‘We Can’t Stop’ ), Miley decided to go a different route with ‘Malibu’ because she disagreed with some of the themes in the hip-hop genre, “I love that new Kendrick Lamar song [“Humble”]: “Show me somethin’ natural like ass with some stretch marks. I love that because it’s notCome sit on my d**k, s**k on my c**k.” I can’t listen to that anymore. That’s what pushed me out of the hip-hop scene a little. It was too much “Lamborghini, got my Rolex, got a girl on my c**k” – I am so not that.”

Expect Miley to release ‘Malibu’ next Thursday and read more from her Billboard cover story HERE.
