The great war is here.

HBO has finally released details on the upcoming season of Game of Thrones.

Season 7 will premiere July 16th of this year, just over a month later than the other six seasons have aired.

Another change is that this season will only be seven episodes instead of the usual ten. The choice for this delay is because filming for season seven needed to happen during the winter months for what were assuming is for some EPIC battles to come with the white walkers. Consequently, that pushed back the production schedule. As for less episodes, the show’s runners believe in quality over quantity, which is kind of refreshing.

HBO’s almost two minute long teaser featured rock-formed iterations of the house sigils fighting their cyclical battles for power featuring quotes from past seasons (and a new warning about The Great War from Jon Snow). No new footage, but hey: who doesn’t love a little bit of hype, eh?

The delayed debut date for “Game of Thrones” means it will miss the deadline for the 2017 Emmy Awards, a contest it routinely dominates. Last year, the drama series scored a dozen Emmys.
