A temporary “guerrilla art” statue of a young girl staring down the iconic bronze charging bull in Lower Manhattan has been placed for International Women’s Day. It’s the brainchild of a Wall Street firm, State Street Global Advisors, in a plea to fellow companies for more gender diversity, where currently men make up more than 85% of financial advisory positions on Wall Street. While 25% of Russell 3,000 Index companies have no women on their boards, a 2011 report found that more diverse companies actually outperform less gender-diverse companies.

We’re actively pursuing that the statue stays for a month. If the city decides that it should stay in perpetuity, we’re absolutely on board with that.”
