Let’s go back to 2012. James Arthur was a contestant on Season 9 of The X-Factor UK; judges that season included Nicole Scherzinger, Rita Ora, Leona Lewis and Spice Girls Geri Halliwell and Melanie Brown.

Arthur beat fellow contestant Jahmene Douglas in the season finale to win; he was the first X-Factor to have previously been in the bottom two (a spot where one of the two contestants are eliminated).
