This story was overshadowed by Steve Harvey yesterday. Some groups are upset that Miss Universe Canada, Paola Nunez Valde strutted her stuff in a totem pole strung from a bejeweled bikini bottom for the pageant’s National Costume portion. In previous years Canadian contestants have worn everything from a sparkly Mountie tunic to a hockey ballgown.  Pageant organizers say that there has been a misunderstanding because the totem is actually inspired by Paola’s Dominican heritage and is not a representation of First Nations culture.
