Langston Francis Talks Growing Up in Toronto and His New Single, "Fall From Grace"

Only 16 years old, Toronto’s Langston Francis has a voice and presence that are well beyond his years.

The singer-songwriter and filmmaker is also unapologetically fearless when it comes to his art,

“By not following any kind of plan, I let my instincts help me say what I want to say without thinking about what’s out there or any category my music is supposed to be in.”

He sat down with our KiSS Entertainment reporter Brooksy about growing up in the 6ix, music and his latest single, “Fall From Grace”.

Grew up in Toronto’s Kensington Market:

“I think growing up downtown in Toronto had a huge affect on me not just as an artist but also as a person, individual….[the area is] very diverse with all the people and characters you see.”

About busking as a kid in Toronto:

“That was a huge part of my early teenage years….The amount of money I used to make when I was 12 or 13! I used to go out with my sister and stuff and sit with her and i think because i was 12 or 11 and my voice was really high and looked like this little kid people would give me money. I’d get like $20 bills and it was crazy. I could make like $100 an hour.”

About the song “Fall From Grace”:

“I co-wrote it with my manager and another writer….I think it’s really cool when, you know me being a teenagers and if I’m co-writing with someone who’s maybe twice my age where we can find parallels with our experiences and meshing these things together. People always think things you go through when you’re young, those juvenile experiences maybe seem so meaningless but I think there are still things we can find in those experiences. At least me, where I can turn it into a song where it could resonates with someone older.”
