In light of tragedy, there is unity and strength. It’s been one week since the horrible Humboldt Broncos bus accident tragedy which claimed the lives of 16 team members of the junior hockey team, an event that really hit home for so many of us.

The #SticksOutforHumboldt movement has seen millions of people across Canada and the world leaving hockey sticks on front porches in solidarity of those affected by the tragedy, and a heartfelt hidden camera moment of 12-year-old Matthew Heaney of Whitby, ON has captured the mood of the nation.

Posted by @v_heaney16 on Twitter, “My family left a hockey stick on our porch for the Humboldt Broncos, and our ring doorbell caught this video of my little brother looking at the stick when he came home from school. Watch until the end, heartbreaking.

“Character is what we do when no one is watching.”

Meanwhile, the outpouring of support has also seen over $10 million raised through the GoFundMe page, and the #JerseysforHumboldt day movement started by a group of Langley hockey moms brought out a sea of jerseys across the world.
