There’s no doubt that we’re a city that loves its ramen; it seems every other store downtown is serving up this brothy goodness from heaven.

 

But did you know there’s an authentic way to be eating your ramen? This, according to Ivan Orkin, who has spent years studying the ‘art’ of the dish and owns several ramen restaurants across the world.

 

The star of Chef’s Table states the first rule is to eat it while it’s hot. Why? Because the noodles can overcook if they sit in the hot broth for too long, making them mushier and the broth more starchy. Also, don’t be afraid to SLURP! Orkin says it’s expected in Japan and cools the hot noodles down.

 

Another important note: Hydrate! Because of the copious amounts of salt in many ramen broths, you won’t be feeling great unless you drink lots of water during and after your meal.
