A full campfire ban today (July 6th) at noon. Citing increasing temperatures and lack of forecasted precipitation, BC Wildfire services put the ban in for all of the Coastal Region. Which includes all of the island except for the fog zone. On the mainland, the ban effects those in the Sunshine Coast, Sea to Sky and Chilliwack Forest District.

Check the map below:

The ban will last for the rest of the summer (Oct. 21) unless something changes. Here’s what the ban covers

  • Campfires
  • Category 2 open fires
  • Category 3 open fires
  • Fires burning woody debris in outdoor stoves
  • The use of tiki torches, fireworks, firecrackers, sky lanterns, burning barrels or burning cages of any size or description
  • The use of binary exploding targets (e.g. for rifle target practice)

So don’t do that. Tickets can hit $1,150. Which is a lot. So no fires for a bit here, sorry.
