Lady Gaga explains Significance Behind 'Joanne' during 'Dive Bar Tour'.

In an intimate setting in New York City, Lady Gaga played a short, 6 song set last night as part of the ‘Dive Bar Tour’. She showcased music from her album that dropped today, entitled ‘Joanne’ and took time to explain the story behind the album.

Between numbers ‘A-Yo’ and ‘Joanne’, Gaga explains: “We wrote this song about my father’s sister, Joanne, who passed away in 1974. She was a victim of sexual assault, who was so traumatized by her experience, that it flared up her existing disease. She had lupus and she died very quickly after that. this tragedy stayed with my family (for) a very long time… We wrote this song not only in her honour but in the honour of so manye people who have lost one’s that they love. Or maybe there’s a pending loss? That’s so terrifying. You just never want to say goodbye.”

“I remember when I was thinking about what to name the album. I said, I just keep thinking it’s supposed to be… and I stumbled, I couldn’t get it out because it’s so personal. I was afraid to share that you know….Mark (Ronson, album collaborator) and I both just said ‘Joanne'”.

Although it was a small venue, a handful of A-listers showed up, including Robert DeNiro, and Gaga’s Dad, Joe Germanotta, who she dedicated a song too. The particular bar is one that Gaga has been playing at since she was 15 years old, in fact it was the very bar she launched her singing career in.

She dedicated the song ‘Grigio Girls’ to her dear friend Sonja who is battling stage 4 cancer.
