Hey, it’s Ian from the KiSS Crew! Today, I went to Science World at Telus World of Science to check out Body Worlds: Animal Inside Out.

Science World’s Bryan Tisdall and special guest Dr. Angelina Whalley were on hand to take me through the exhibit and show me all the cool stuff it has to offer. Dr. Walley, the exhibit’s creator, explained that her goal is to inspire people, and make them aware of the wonders of nature and help them understand how fragile it is. With over a hundred animal specimens on display, the exhibit highlights not only the tremendous diversity of the animal kingdom, but also the profound similarities that we humans share with other creatures.

Dr. Whalley uses a special process called plastination to preserve each specimen. Highlights included seeing all the blood vessels of a horse and an ostrich refashioned as they would appear if the rest of the animal was invisible. The skeletons of birds and large and small land mammals, undersea creatures and humans are all on display, along with full-size giraffe and bull replicas which allow you to see their internal organs in a way that we’ve never before been able to see. Check it out!
